The role of HCD in advancing health technologies for low resource settings

Helen Storey is a public health scientist and program advisor at PATH, where she leads product-driven research focused on user experience and health system integration to advance the development and adoption of intentionally designed health technologies for low-resource settings. Her work includes formative research to understand user and product specifications, as well as real world evidence generation that informs validation and operational fit of new technologies to guide integration. Dr Storey applies her methods-focused experience to various disease areas, including neglected tropical diseases, typhoid, diabetes, HIV, childhood pneumonia, and maternal health, as well as various technologies including diagnostics, medical devices, digital tools, and now AI-assisted health tools. She also provides technical leadership in public health and human-centered design, along with the role of AI in global health. Dr Storey received her PhD in epidemiology and MS in microbiology.

The UX Speaker Series is hosted Thursdays in Winter Quarter by the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. Presentations are open to the public.

Depending on the speaker's preference, a recording will be posted to this webpage after the event. View the full schedule at hcde.uw.edu/ux.
