Winter 2024
Co-designing an Inclusive Teaching Toolkit
In this 10 week DRG, we will be building on previous work from the HCDE DEI teaching committee. For the last year and a half, we have been developing an inclusive teaching toolkit which will serve as a living resource for both instructors and students in designing new courses and improving current ones.
In the Spring, students co-designed a prototype of a webpage consisting of resources, an information architecture, and Figma screens that fit into a larger user flow. In the Fall, students user tested the existing the screens, analyzed data into themes/findings, and designed iterated screens to A/B test.
In this 2-credit Winter DRG, students will:
- Continue user tests of the existing prototype with instructors and students
- Reflect on their own classroom experiences individually and as a group
- Iterate on the prototype including redesigning Figma screens based on testing data, while working within UW branding guidelines
- Implement the toolkit onto the HCDE website
We will be recruiting 2-3 students that are interested in the above points and have experience with visual design and Figma.
Autumn 2023

Spring 2023
Co-Designing an Inclusive Teaching Toolkit
Led by Sourojit Ghosh, Mina Zavary, and Frances Marie Tabio Ello
The HCDE DEI committee has been working on an inclusive teaching toolkit. We are looking for students to help us put together resources and design the website pages of the toolkit. Students will use the human-centered design process to create a living resource for both students and faculty that will live on the HCDE intranet. This toolkit will be a way for students and faculty to reference when creating courses and improving current ones.
Throughout this DRG, students will:
- Display resources/information in creative ways that work for users
- Design within the UW Brand identity
- Reflect on their classroom experiences to shape the Toolkit into a resource that is beneficial for both students and faculty
Skills/Experience Requirements
- Have experience with wireframing in Figma
- Previously or currently enrolled in HCDE 318/518 is a plus
- Willingness to learn about concepts like power and equity in education spaces
- Some to moderate experience in visual design
