The Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering is introducing a new study abroad program for Summer 2019. Led by HCDE faculty members Drs. Brock Craft and Tyler Fox, this program will be an international exploration of issues and current topics in human-centered design.

London remains a globally significant crossroads for creative cultures of all kinds and has a thriving interaction and user experience design scene. A crucial aspect of this program is cultivating awareness of physical and social contexts and how they are mediated by technology, and how they may be investigated. The infrastructure of the city presents opportunities for developing a more in-depth understanding of how to engineer interactions and experiences at a system-level scale.

In this three-week program, students will conduct field research in the city, attend seminar sessions, and produce designed responses to their experiences. Their visit will culminate in participation in the week-long London Design Festival 2019.

This study abroad program is open to students who are in or entering their senior year, master’s students, and PhD students from all disciplines. It is designed for students who are eager to explore how technology is designed and used in diverse and vibrant urban contexts.
