The University of Washington's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE)  announces the launch of a new Outstanding Alumni Award to recognize alumni whose achievements demonstrate the mission and values of the HCDE department.

The HCDE Outstanding Alumni Award is designed to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to their professional fields, demonstrated impactful leadership, and enriched their communities through innovative work or service. It serves as a testament to the diverse and inspiring accomplishments of HCDE alumni.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for the HCDE Outstanding Alumni Award are evaluated on the following:

• Professional Achievement: The nominee has made notable contributions to their field through a distinguished career trajectory or significant accomplishments.
• Publications or Innovations: The nominee has made impactful advancements through research, publications, or the creation of innovative tools, systems, or methodologies.
• Leadership: The nominee has made outstanding contributions as a leader within their profession or community.
• Community Service and Public Benefit: The nominee has made a positive difference by dedicating time and effort to initiatives that serve the public or enhance their communities, including contributions to addressing societal or environmental challenges. 

Eligible nominees must be graduates of an HCDE degree-granting program (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD). Nominations may be submitted by HCDE alumni, faculty, staff, instructors, or through self-nomination.

Nominations Open through May 1, 2025

The nomination period will run from January through May 1, 2025. Nominations will be reviewed by the HCDE External Partnerships Committee, and the recipient will be announced in June 2025.

To nominate an outstanding HCDE alumnus, complete the 2025 Nomination Form. We encourage all members of the HCDE community to participate and help us honor the remarkable achievements of our alumni. Self-nominations are also encouraged.
