Join the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering for our end-of-quarter course showcases. These events are your opportunity to preview different HCDE classes and view the variety of topics students are exploring. All events are open to the public, and light refreshments are provided.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 4
User-Centered Design (HCDE 518)
When: 6 - 9 p.m.
Where: Bagley Hall
Instructors: Sarah Coppola, Doug Pyle, Rebecca Destello, Daniella Kim
In HCDE 518, graduate students explore the user-centered design paradigm from a broad perspective, emphasizing how user research and prototype assessment can be integrated into different phases of the design process. Students will present their final projects in this open course showcase.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5
Material & Cultural Bias In Algorithmic Systems (HCDE 485 / DxARTS 485)
When: 4 – 5 p.m.
Where: DxArts Gallery, McMahon Hall
Instructor: Daniela Rosner
This project-based course examines the merging of data science and arts and design practices. Students draw from artistic practices and programs to examine the concept of bias in data practices that affect ranking operations such as search engines and news trends.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6
Information Visualization (HCDE 411)
When: 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Where: 232 Sieg Building
Instructors: Murtaza Ali & Adam Hyland
Students will be presenting their final information visualization projects, including some physical visualizations. Topics covered will include the eras of cinema, video game popularity over time, fantasy football statistics, and more.

Intro to User Centered Design (HCDE 318)
When: 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

HCDE undergraduate students will present their progress from the first quarter of Foundations in Human Centered Design. 10 teams will present their user research project progress.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7
UX Prototyping Techniques (HCDE 451)
When: 9:30 – 11 a.m.
Where: The MILL, McCarty Hall

In HCDE 451, students are introduced to a variety of prototyping techniques for different kinds of user experience design problems. Students will be demonstrating their final projects in this open course showcase.
